If She Breaks Your Heart

I'm still loving this album right here...

Phonte and Nicolay are Foreign Exchange, and If She Breaks Your Heart from their second LP Leave It All Behind has me right now. I had to retire this album when it first came out because I played it too much. I hate burning out my music. I will say after hearing If She Breaks Your Heart for the first time in a while, I am hard pressed not to put on repeat.

Here's a vid of Foreign Exchange performing If She Breaks Your Heart live @ Cat's Cradle in NC. Props to ladyvee76 for the footage.

Reflection Eternal: Back Again

I'm feeling this joint by Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek, better known as Reflection Eternal. Back Again sums up the duo's latest work perfectly, as these dudes are back like they never left. All I got is one question...What took so long!?!

Check The Footwork: James, Michael and Prince

Here's some dope footage I found of James Brown, Michael Jackson and Prince on the same stage together. That's crazy! For so long it was rumoured that Prince did not like Michael Jackson. These individuals possess(ed) crazy talent, and it would come as no shock to me if their creative minds clashed once or twice. The end result of any said rivalry was incredible music, and this footage right here. Only James could have made that moment happen!

Ryan Tedder

Damn! This dude takes all the fun out the game. Representing Pittsburgh and Cleveland, Ryan Tedder is a beast! Here's an old clip of a beat I like.

The Extended Lunch

What's good! I sincerely hope that everything is everything. Today it appears as though BET will be covering the Michael Jackson Staples Center ceremony all day. How did I get so fortunate? I love MJ and consider myself the ultimate fan, but even Digs needs a break from the continuous coverage.

Like everyone, I have been engulfed in MJ coverage since his passing last week. If I turn off the TV, I'll feel guilty. I'll feel like I'm not being sympathetic enough. However, if I continue to stay confined to my office watching the continous coverage, I will drive myself crazy. Michael wouldn't want that now would he!

Enough is enough, I think I'll take an extended lunch, run down to Wax-N-Facts, and find some records. Maxwell came out today, perhaps I'll go cop that. No need to listen first, I'm a fan! Till later babies...

Mother Made Ya, Mother Had Ya, Muthaf'k Ya

This is what real Hip-Hop looks like! Given the hot climate in Rap right now, I need some help cooling this shit off. I sincerely hope Game & Jim Jones saw this joint. Anybody out there talking that old shit, like old heads can't rock, I present you with two legends...

Lord Jamar and Grand Puba ain't fell off yet.

Your Whole Style Is Chump

There seems to be a new trend in Hip-Hop, one that is centered around disrespect of your elders. Weaker and lyrically unfit MC's are proposing a new age limit on Hip-Hop, apparently because older heads are still holding it down. As a result, the new rule is if you are over 30, and nicer than some random fake gangsta wannabe MC, you should retire from rap because you're not playing fair...

That's bullshit! Game and Jim Jones are both past their proverbial prime, being near or over 30 years old. That's why I find it odd that time and time again, they get their old asses in the booth, and call Jay-Z out for being too old. Why, because Jay got grandaddy pockets off of rap, and he's not apologetic? Why should he be? What about the next generation of young rhyme slingers. Wale, B.O.B and Drake are all nicer than you.

I think the problem many have with Jay is his energy. He's still vibrant enough for kids to care, despite the fact he's been rhyming since the days of Kane. What's worse is Kane is nicer than most of these cats in the game right now. If the youth were aware of that, there would be more chaos. Oh well! I've learned from the gangstas that when your career is at stake, you no longer have to earn your spot. All one has to do is scream "F'k Jay-Z" to stay relevant.

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem

While checking out the timelessly cool Diary Of Fools, I was hit with an epiphany. What would life had been like without The Muppets?

If you were a child of the 70's or 80's you're definitely familiar with the late Jim Henson and his Muppets. As a kid, I would watch The Muppet Show and sing along to Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem! Animal would man the drums, Kermit would host while stacking a sexual harassment claim against Miss Piggy. Beaker was on coke, and all Statler and Waldorf did was talk shit.

Jim Henson created characters the whole family could love, and crafted humanistic plots. In his prime, he had three successful shows with Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, and of course The Muppet Show. Episodes were packed with guest appearances, music, and enough laughs to hold you till the next show. Henson had to be a true genius!

[Astral Projects]

Good morning, I'm focused. I'm really diggin' [Astral Projects] Vintage Crates series, especially this one right here. It's got the right blend of 80's boogie, like fine wine mixed with Wild Irish Rose.

I've had the podcast since around April or May, but I have just gotten a chance to hear it given all the vinyl I have been shuffling through lately. When I heard the third track, SOS Band Groovin', I was immediately inspired to dash to the liquor store...

...after responsibly chasing shots of inexpensive Vodka with even cheaper brew, I am still sufferring from a massive hangover. I'd say Vintage Crates Episode #10: Make That Move deserves a special title. I think I'll call it the [Ripple Project]. I love it!
